The scope of this text includes research findings as well as day-to-day pragmatic issues in treating patients within the VEM procedure. In this regard, we thank all of our patients for providing an invaluable resource by teaching us many life lessons. We also want to thank our families, Joan and Robbie Sirven and Joel and Peter Stern, for sharing us with this project. Without their support and understanding, this book would never have come to fruition. Special acknowledgments are due to the editors at McGraw-Hill for believing in this project and to all of our contributors for their countless hours in preparing the videos and the text. We expect that readers will enjoy their chapters as much as we do. The contributors' stature as leading authorities on VEM and their representation of a variety of internationally recognized institutions gives us considerable pride.

We would also like to acknowledge Janis Muccioli, REEGT, and Nancy Perry, REEGT, both of the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, for their video contributions.

We hope that you find this reference to be helpful in your care of patients, and we dedicate the book to all of those who have struggled with conditions that require video-EEG monitoring.
