Case descriptions of what likely was Wilson's disease (WD) were published by Frerichs in 1860,2 Westphal in 1885,3 Gowers in 1888,4 Ormerod in 1890,5 Homen in 1892,6 and Strümpell in 1898,7 but it was Wilson who accurately and in exhausting detail delineated the characteristics of this illness and distilled the information into a coherent clinical picture.
